Cashion is currently the Chair of the Pediatric Dental Medicaid and CHIP Advisory Committee. He has a private practice in Greensboro, N.C. and also holds a position as adjunct assistant professor at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Cashion served as an At-Large Trustee on the AAPD Board of Trustees and was Parliamentarian of the Board of Trustees. He is a graduate of the AAPD Leadership Institute and the Advanced Leadership Institute at Wharton. He has served as Chair of the Council on Government Affairs and the Chair of the Council on Membership and Membership Services. Cashion was previously the President of the North Carolina Dental Association, The North Carolina Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the Guilford County Dental Society. He is a diplomate of the ABPD, and received his dental degree and pediatric dental training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Donald Chi is an Associate Professor of Oral Health Sciences at the University of Washington. He is board-certified in pediatric dentistry and dental public health. He completed an AB degree in government (Cornell, 2000), a D.D.S. degree (Washington, 2006), residencies in pediatric dentistry and dental public health (Iowa, 2009), and a Ph.D. in health services research (Iowa, 2009).
Chi’s research focuses on understanding and addressing children’s oral health inequalities. He is the first dentist to be named a William T. Grant Foundation Scholar, which funds his research on how neighborhoods influence teen dental outcomes. He was appointed to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Advisory Committee on Training in Primary Care Medicine and Dentistry and is a Board Member of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR), and is Chair of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Council on Scientific Affairs.
He received the 2016 Jerome Miller "For the Kids" Award from the AAPD, the 2017 Distinguished Scientist Award from IADR, and was named Pediatric Dentist of the Year in 2018. He spent the 2016-2017 academic year as a Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University. Chi teaches public health and devotes his extramural clinical practice to treating children in Alaska Native communities. -
Jim Crall received his dental degree, master's degree and certificate in pediatric dentistry from the University of Iowa and is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He was selected to serve as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Dental Health Services Research Scholar at Harvard from 1984-1986 and subsequently obtained masters and doctoral degrees in Health Policy and Management from the Harvard School of Public Health. In 1997, Crall was appointed as the first dental scholar-in-residence at the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR), which is now the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). He has served on several national panels including the Joint Commission Quality Improvement Task Force; Pew Health Professions Commission Dental Advisory Panel; Milbank-Reforming States Group Pediatric Oral Health Work Group; National Committee on Quality Assurance Pediatric Oral Health Expert Panel (chair); National Governors Association Oral Health Policy Academy Programs, and the Department of Health and Human Services Advisory Committee for Training in Primary Care Medicine and Dentistry.
Crall was a member of the faculty of the University of Iowa (1979-1985) and University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine (1986-2000) and held appointments as head of the department of pediatric dentistry, associate dean for Program Evaluation and Planning, and director of the department of dentistry at the Connecticut Children's Medical Center. From 2000-2003, he served as director of Columbia University's Oral Health Disparities and Policy Center and director of the HRSA/MCHB National Oral Health Policy Center. In 2004, Crall joined the UCLA School of Dentistry as chair of the department of pediatric dentistry, while continuing to direct the National Oral Health Policy Center. He was the AAPD Child Advocate from 1995-2013, served as chair of the AAPD's Council on Government Affairs from 1999-2003, and continues to serves as an ex-officio member of this council. Crall served as project director for the AAPD Foundation Dental Home Initiative from 2007-2010. Crall was honored as "Pediatric Dentist of the Year" by the AAPD in 2005 and with the AAPD Distinguished Service Award in 2008. -
Catherine Flaitz, D.D.S., M.S., is professor at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry and associate chief of dentistry at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Dr. Flaitz earned her dental degree from Creighton University and received specialty certification and a Master of Science degree in pediatric dentistry, followed by specialty certification in oral and maxillofacial pathology from The University of Iowa. She is board-certified in oral and maxillofacial pathology. Within the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, she is a section editor for Pediatric Dentistry, faculty for the course, Comprehensive Review of Pediatric Dentistry, and former member, Board of Trustees, Academic at Large (2012-2015). Presently, Dr. Flaitz is the pediatric dentistry commissioner for the Commission on Dental Accreditation and is director, American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology. In addition, she serves on the editorial boards of American Journal of Dentistry, Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Journal of Dentistry for Children, and Journal of the American Dental Association. She has received continuous grant and contract support in the areas of cariology, and pathogenesis and management of oral diseases.

Montana oral health disparities researcher and clinician, Jane Gillette, DDS is a nationally recognized leader in dental disease prevention, evidence-based dentistry, and value-based healthcare. She has a unique and diverse background, which includes leadership and work experience in a variety of practice settings including the Federal Dental Service, Community Health Center’s, American Indian health, private practice and the academic/research setting. She serves in a leadership capacity with many health organizations including the American Dental Association (ADA), the National Network for Oral Health Access (NNOHA), the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) funded practice-based research networks. Gillette is the newly elected vice-chair of the ADA CAPIR Council and additionally serves as a trustee of the AAPD and an expert consultant to the AAPD Pediatric Oral Health Research and Policy Center.
As one of the nation’s leading advocates for improving oral health outcomes via value-based healthcare, Gillette developed for Montana the nation’s only risk-based age-dependent dental Medicaid reimbursement system and attended Harvard Business School’s, Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness, where she studied value-based healthcare and quality measurement under internationally renowned health economist Michael Porter. Gillette works closely with the ADA’s Center for Evidence-Based Dentistry and for the past five years has served on the ADA’s Evidence-Based Dentistry Champions Conference coordinating committee and lectured and taught course work at this conference as well. She is a member of the steering committee for the ADA’s update of the "Evidence-Based Clinical Recommendations for the Use of Pit-and-Fissure Sealants", a reviewer of scientific evidence for the ADA’s evidence-based dentistry website (EBD.ADA.org), an editor for The Journal of Evidence-Based Dental Practice and lectures nationally on topics related to evidence-based dentistry and research translation.
Gillette is the Director of Sprout Oral Health, a non-profit organization that provides technical assistance, health policy and research consulting to organizations committed to the oral healthcare of vulnerable populations. Projects lead by Gillette include a research study evaluating "The Implementation and Impact of the Community Dental Health Coordinator model in an American Indian Head Start Population" and an "Evaluation of Emergency Room Utilization for Preventable Dental Procedures in Montana Hospitals" utilizing a similar methodology as the AHRQ HCUP Statistical Brief on Emergency Department Visits for Dental Conditions.

Dr. Eric Hodges attended Creighton University, receiving a B.A. (1983) in Psychology and his D.D.S. (1987). He received his certificate in Pediatric Dentistry (1989) from the University of Nebraska College of Dentistry. Dr. Hodges was a full-time assistant professor at UNMC from 1989 to 1993, involved in didactic, clinical and research education for the residency program. He was co-author and author in a number of publications as well as an investigator and judge in research projects and forums.
Dr. Hodges began his private practice in 1993 and currently practices in Omaha, NE. Dr. Hodges has held each leadership office in the Nebraska Society of Pediatric Dentistry and the North Central District of the AAPD. Eric has served on the Membership Council of the AAPD and is currently chairman of the Council of Government Affairs of the AAPD. He has served on a number of Nebraska Dental Association councils and committees and has served as the Vice President, President Elect, and President of the Nebraska Dental Association.
Dr. Hodges has spoken on many occasions at local, state, national, and international meetings, televised appearances and has given testimony on pediatric dental issues and organized dentistry to students, allied health providers, dentists, legislators, and the public. He has experience as a professor, advocate, mentor and private practitioner in pediatric dentistry.

Dr. Lee is the Demeritt Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of North Carolina. She is also a Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management in the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr Lee received her MPH and DDS degrees from Columbia University and her Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry and PhD in Health Policy and Management from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she was also a NIDCR National Research Service Award recipient. She is a board-certified pediatric dentist and an active member of the medical staff at UNC Hospitals and practices in the Dental Faculty Practice in the School of Dentistry.
She has authored over a 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts. She is involved in teaching, clinical practice and research. Her primary research interests are in infant oral health, access to dental care for young children, health literacy and health disparities. Dr Lee is the recipient of numerous teaching and research awards including the 2008 American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Jerome Miller "For the Kids" Award. In 2010, she received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientist and Engineers from President Barack Obama. In 2011, Dr. Lee was named the ‘Pediatric Dentist of the Year" by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. -
Dr. Randall K. Lout is in private practice in Mesa and Phoenix, Arizona. He attended dental school at the University of Oklahoma. Following dental school, he completed his pediatric dental residency and Master of Science degree at the University of Minnesota. As part of his residency, his hospital training was at the University of Minnesota Hospitals and Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Following his training, he was awarded the Graduate Student Research Award by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Prior to private practice, he held the position of assistant professor, University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry, Department of Pediatric Dentistry. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. In addition to being the current Chair, AAPD Council for Clinical Affairs, he also serves on the Evidence-Based Dentistry Committee.

Dr. Vinod Miriyala ("Vinnie") completed his dental training in India (B.D.S) and United States (D.D.S). He is dual trained in Pediatric Dentistry and Public Health Dentistry with a Master’s degree in Public Health, fellowship training in Pediatric dentistry from Ohio State University/Nationwide Children’s Hospital of Columbus and Dental Public Health from University of Pittsburgh. He has previously held academic and research positions at various dental colleges and schools in the U.S. In addition to his clinical practice, he is a consultant for many community health centers, public health associations, Head Start centers, local, regional and national health organizations. Dr. Miriyala has previously established and directed the community outreach and dental public health department at University of Detroit Mercy. He was the past Director of Oral Health Services at Lawrence County Family Medical Centers.
Dr. Miriyala is the 2016 recipient of James F. Quilty, Jr. Champions of Oral Health Award in the state of Ohio and also has been recognized by Michigan Oral health Coalition. He was the state co-director for the AAPD-Head Start Dental Home Initiative. Dr. Miriyala is part of the Dental Director’s Leadership team for the community health centers in Ohio and is a member of West Virginia Oral Health Advisory Board for West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. Dr. Miriyala routinely lectures on pediatric dentistry and public health issues in dentistry at various study clubs, local, regional and state meetings and educational programs. -
Dr. Amr M. Moursi is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the New York University College of Dentistry and an Attending Dentist at the New York University Langone Medical Center and the Bellevue Hospital Center in New York. Dr. Moursi completed his DDS degree at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, a pediatric dentistry residency at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, then a PhD in Craniofacial Biology from the University of California at San Francisco. He also maintains a private practice in New York City.
For the AAPD, Dr. Moursi currently serves as a Fellow of the Pediatric Oral Health Research and Policy Center and on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Dentistry for Children. He is also the Liaison to the American Academy of Pediatrics, and serves as a National Spokesperson. He was also formerly the Academic Trustee on the Board of Trustees and served as the Chair of the AAPD Global Interactions Task Force. In his other service activities, Dr. Moursi serves as an Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and as a consultant to both the New York State and New York City Departments of Health. He is a former member of the Examination Committee of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He also served as a Consultant and Pediatric Dentistry Review Committee member for the Commission on Dental Accreditation.

Reggiardo is the interim chair of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry’s Council on Dental Benefit Programs. He is a past president of the AAPD and of the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry, where he now serves as the appointed Public Policy Advocate. He is a consultant to the Policy Development Council of the California Dental Association and a member of the CDA’s Access Taskforce and Workforce Research and Forecasting Work Group. He was previously Oral Health Consultant to Head Start Programs in the western states of Arizona, California, Hawaii and Nevada and currently represents the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry on the American Dental Association’s Standards on Dental Informatics and the ADA Editorial Panel for the Development and Maintenance of the Systematized Nomenclature of Dentistry. He holds a faculty appointment as Assistant Clinical Professor in Postdoctoral Pediatric Dental Residency Training at the University of Southern California School of Dentistry and maintains a clinical pediatric dental practice in Huntington Beach, California.

Casamassimo is the chief policy officer of the Pediatric Oral Health Research and Policy Center. He received his dental degree from Georgetown University in 1974 and a Master of Science and Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Iowa in 1976. He has taught at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry (1976-78) and the University of Colorado School of Dentistry (1978-88). He is former editor-in-chief of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and its journal, Pediatric Dentistry, and also past president of AAPD. Casamassimo is past president of the Academy of Dentistry for the Handicapped and past editor of Journal of Dentistry for the Handicapped and Journal of Dentistry for Children.
He has authored over 400 publications including three books, 31 text chapters and seven monographs in the areas of pediatric dentistry, care of children with special health care needs, and dental education. His research interests include oral health of children with special health care needs, health services research, and oral health disparity. He has obtained grants and contracts from private and public sources totaling over $2 million dollars for research, prevention and care projects.
He is a member of a number of professional organizations including the American Dental Association and is a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon honor fraternity, a fellow in AAPD, and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is a past Secretary of the Ohio Dental Association.

Wright is the director of the AAPD Pediatric Oral Health Research and Policy Center. She holds a master’s degree in communication from the University of Illinois at Urbana and a doctorate in healthcare communication at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She is the author of over 70 publications, including the book, "Tough Questions, Great Answers: Responding to Patient Concerns about Today’s Dentistry," published in three languages.
Wright was president of her own consulting firm, Wright Communications, for 25 years. The firm provided services to a wide variety of health care clients including public relations, crisis management, educational needs assessment, patient relations management, and customized educational programming. She has made more than 500 presentations at dental meetings and has taught at five universities and two dental schools. She has won awards from the American Marketing Association, American Film Festival, and Action for Children’s Television. Royston is the policy analyst of the AAPD Pediatric Oral Health Research and Policy Center. She holds a master’s degree in public health from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a bachelor’s degree in social work from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. Royston has a passion for working with underserved populations and closing health disparity gaps.
Royston was a United States Naval Surface Warfare Officer for five years. She then worked with the Illinois Primary Healthcare Association as a Student Coordinator, assisting students of various medical professions secure rotations in federally qualified healthcare centers. As well as with the American Cancer Society as a Patient Navigator/Health Educator, helping women obtain screening mammograms.

Dr. Tegwyn Brickhouse is Director of Virginia Commonwealth University’s iCubed transdisciplinary Oral Health Core and the School of Dentistry’s Oral Health Services Research Core. In addition, she is Interim Chair and Associate Professor in the Department of Oral Health Promotion and Community Outreach at the VCU School of Dentistry. She has served VCU as a faculty member since 2003.
Brickhouse earned her dental degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry and received her pediatric dentistry specialty training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also earned a Ph.D. in Epidemiology at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public health and completed a Dental Public Health residency at the North Carolina Oral Health Section in Raleigh, NC.
Dr. Brickhouse brings a wealth of academic, clinical, research, and policy experience in pediatric dentistry and population oral health to the School of Dentistry. Her work has included numerous federal grants from both the National Institutes of Health and the Health Services Resource Administration. She also serves as children’s oral health policy expert at community, state and national levels. -
Chalmers earned her dental degree from The Faculty of Dental Medicine, Medical University of Sofia. She received her Ph.D. from University of Maryland School of Dentistry in a Graduate Partnership Program with the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, NIH. She received her Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry University of Maryland School of Dentistry and is a board-certified pediatric dentist. She was also a recipient of an NIDCR T32 Post-Doctoral Fellowship from the Forsyth Institute, Boston, Massachusetts. Chalmers currently is clinical research fellow at NIDCR Dental Clinic in the NIH Clinical Research Center, where she provides services for pediatric patients enrolled in numerous research protocols.
Chalmers serves as an expert consultant for the Council on Scientific Affairs of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Her research interests are evidence-based pediatric dentistry and the role of the oral microbiome in disease development and progression. In her leadership positions, Chalmers is the clinical co-chair of the NIH Fellows Committee, serving as an officer for the IADR Women in Science group.
Chalmers has been invited to present at national and international meetings and has co-authored publications in highly regarded journals, including the Journal of Dental Research, Pediatric Dentistry, Journal of Bacteriology and the Journal of Clinical Microbiology. In 2014 Chalmers, together with Drs. James Coll and Alison Campbell, was a recipient of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Paul P. Taylor Award, given to the most prestigious journal article in Pediatric Dentistry from the previous year.

Nowak is professor emeritus of pediatric dentistry and pediatrics in the Colleges of Dentistry and Medicine at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. He received his BA from Washington and Jefferson College (1957), DMD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine (1961), a certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from Columbia University, School of Dental and Oral Surgery (1966), and an MA in Special Education from Columbia University Teachers College (1967). Nowak is a retired Captain in the United Sates Navy Dental Corps, having entered the Corps in 1960 and retired in 1997.
Nowak has served as executive director and president, American Board of Pediatric Dentistry; member of the board of trustees and President of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry; the Executive Council of the American Society of Dentistry for Children; as president of the Academy of Dentistry for the Handicapped; and president of the National Foundation of Dentistry for the Handicapped.
He has over 150 articles and chapters in professional and lay publications on preventive oral health care, oral health care for infants and young children and children with special health care needs. He is editor of the text, Dentistry for the Handicapped Patient,(CV Mosby Company); the senior editor of the text, Pediatric Dentistry: Infancy Through Adolescence, 65th ed (Elsevier/Saunders Company); Reviewer Practical Reviews in Pediatric Dentistry(Oakstone Medical Publishing); and co-editor The Handbook of Pediatric Dentistry5th ed(American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry).
He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation of Johnson County and the Superintendents Advisory Committee for School Health, Iowa City Community School District. He is a volunteer pediatric dentist at the Iowa City Free Medical and Dental Clinic. He has been a member of the City Council, University Heights, Iowa; and treasurer of Slow Food Iowa City. In addition, he is a consultant to a number of manufacturers of oral health products and infant and toddler products.

Anupama Rao Tate, is an associate professor of pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine. She is a faculty member in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry in the Goldberg Center for Community Pediatric Health at Children’s National Medical Center. She serves as the director of Advocacy and Research. She also is co-director of the District of Columbia Pediatric Oral Health Coalition. She currently serves as Parliamentarian for the Board of Directors to the AAPD. She currently chairs the Grant Sub-Committee of the Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children Foundation of the AAPD. She also chairs the Evidence-Based Dentistry Committee and the Consumer Review Committee of the AAPD. She is the Public Policy Advocate for District of Columbia for the AAPD as well. She chairs the Qualifying Examination Committee for the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and serves as a member of the Section on Oral Health to the American Academy of Pediatrics.
She received her DMD from Harvard School of Dental Medicine and her MPH from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She received her Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from Children’s National Medical Center. She is a board-certified pediatric dentist and an active member of the medical staff at Children’s National. She is involved in teaching, clinical practice, research and holds grants in community advocacy.

Dr. Reggiardo chairs the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Council on Dental Benefit Programs and is a member of the Patient Safety Committee. He is a past president of the AAPD and of the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry, where he now serves as the appointed Public Policy Advocate. He is the current dentist representative to the California State Medicaid Program Children’s Health Advisory Panel and sits on the Dental Benefits and Economics Task Force of the California Dental Association. He was previously Oral Health Consultant to Head Start and Early Head Start Programs in the western states of Arizona, California, Hawaii and Nevada and currently represents the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry on the American Dental Association’s Standards on Dental Informatics, the ADA Editorial Panel for the Development and Maintenance of the Systematized Nomenclature of Dentistry, and the ADA CDT Code Maintenance Committee.
He holds a faculty appointment as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Clinical Dentistry in Postdoctoral Pediatric Dental Residency Training at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of the University of Southern California and maintains a clinical pediatric dental practice in Huntington Beach, California.
