Description
HCMC's diverse residency programs emphasize clinical skills in a collaborative environment where education takes top priority. Our residents take a hands-on role, developing exceptional skills, learning the latest technology and procedures from dedicated faculty, and working directly with a diverse patient population in one of the region's largest and busiest healthcare systems.
The 2-year hospital based Pediatric Dentistry Residency program combines clinical training and case based learning with a well-rounded evidence based didactic curriculum. The faculty includes board certified dental and medical specialists from Hennepin County Medical Center, Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare and the University of Minnesota. The program is dedicated to the preparation of board-certified pediatric dentists who will serve children and families in their communities using patient-centered care and will be effective leaders and dentists at local, regional and national levels. The experience at Hennepin County Medical Center is unique as it is the region's primary provider for urban and underserved individuals, giving residents the experience treating patients from a variety of cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds, with both routine and serious conditions. Serving this diverse population allows residents to grow in confidence and compassion, enabling them to become champions for community health. With 15 residency and fellowship programs, the HCMC system is a collegial, academic environment focused on teaching and quality care. Residents practice as a part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Curriculum
The curriculum is designed to meet and exceed the educational requirements set forth in the CODA standards for the Advanced Specialty Education Program. Residents participate in seminars, lectures, and clinic in preparation for program completion and preparation for the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry's board exam. A research requirement must be fulfilled.
