Description
The Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program at Jacobi Medical Center is accredited by the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation. A broad exposure to all aspects of pediatric dentistry is offered. Jacobi Medical Center is a Level I Trauma Center and the only Pediatric Trauma Center in the Bronx or Southern Westchester that interacts closely with the dental service. The patient population at the hospital is ethnically diverse and includes well children, developmentally, physically, medically and mentally compromised children and adults.
Curriculum
Pediatric Dentistry residents receive clinical and didactic training from attendings representing all dental specialties and appropriate medical specialties. Hospital rotations include: Pediatric Medicine (Ambulatory and Inpatient), Anesthesia, Ambulatory Surgery, and Pediatric Emergency room. During the first and second years, the residents receive training in special patient care through a rotation to the Rose F. Kennedy Center of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, located on the Jacobi Medical Center site. Literature review, treatment planning seminars and a research project are major components of the educational experience.
Program Stipend and Tuition
All dental residents are members of the Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR) and receive the same salary as the medical residents. Post Graduate Year (PGY) levels are defined as a year of service in a residency training program which is certified as having been completed by the appropriate hospital authority, i.e. GPR, AEGD, etc. Residents also receive an additional $3,000 annual food allowance. Additional educational benefits provided by the CIR include $650 per year for educational supplies and a one time $1,500 Continuing Education stipend. Residents will receive 4 weeks paid vacation as well as 10 Federal holidays.
