Description

The residency program in Pediatric Dentistry fulfills the requirements for advanced education in Pediatric Dentistry as approved by the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation. Upon successful completion of the program, the resident is awarded a Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry and meets the advanced education eligibility requirements of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. The clinical program offers intensive training in all aspects of pediatric dentistry divided between the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the School of Dentistry and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. Through the facilities and programs of both institutions, diversified educational experiences are afforded with emphasis in providing comprehensive oral health care for pediatric, adolescent, medically compromised and developmentally disabled patients. A multidisciplinary approach integrates the educational, research and service components of this specialty program.

Curriculum

settings: OHSU School of Dentistry, Doernbecher Children’s Hospital and OHSU Hospital Clinics.

The program has a strong clinical component based on a foundation of full-time and part-time faculty members that come from years of academic and private practice experience. The didactic component is delivered by OHSU’s School of Dentistry and School of Medicine faculty as well as community volunteers. 

Scheduled rotations with the Pediatric Anesthesia, Developmental Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Program, Division of Hematology and Oncology and Providence Specialty Pediatric Dental Clinic. 

Pediatric Advanced Life Support is required before starting the program. This is provided during orientation. 

Program Stipend and Tuition

First year program stipend is $53,300 with fringe benefits. Second year stipend is $56,000 with fringe benefits.

Graduate Medical Education Residents
3 weeks of paid vacation per academic year
3 weeks of sick leave per academic year
